It is the color of love.” — Marc Chagall

I am Vera...An Intimate Sketch

I am Vera...An Intimate Sketch is a profile of Vera Pavlova, a Russian poet who makes her home in Moscow and New York.

Eleven collections of Pavlova poetry have been published, and her verse has been translated into 15 languages. She has been invited to read at universities and festivals throughout Russia, Europe and America and is appreciated by readers of all ages. Her poems recently appeared in The New Yorker. Her poem, There is Nothing to Desire..., decorated New York City subway trains as part of the MTA's Poetry in Motion project. It will be seen on Los Angeles buses later this year and will also grace a Poetry Society of America bookmark.

I am Vera... is a poet's monologue. She speaks into the camera, revealing her thoughts on love, life and poetry, becoming a performer in this "sketch." Throughout the film, her soliloquy is tightly intertwined with readings of her poems, as well as critical statements about her work which leave her unruffled.

Shot in Moscow and New York, the film provides a personal glimpse into Vera Pavlova's life, her creative process and thoughts, bringing the audience into her complex, whimsical, charming world. Music for the film is written by a well-known Moscow composer, Iraida Yusupova.

I am Vera..., shot on video, will be in Russian and English with English subtitles.
